Skooairs

A reflexion game about squares

Overview

Gather the squares, trap the colors

Skooairs is a reflexion Flash game designed and shipped from end to end during my first year as a solo developer at Uralys.

Squares are thrown from the four sides of a board. The player picks a favorite color, builds a frame with it and locks the other colors as prisoners to score combos.

The game shipped as a Facebook application, connected to a Java / Spring backend hosted on Google AppEngine — scores, profiles and Facebook Connect all wired to a custom Uralys profile service.

The Game

Squares from every side

Four colored squares are thrown from each side of the board every few seconds. Timing and positioning decide which color gets framed and which colors stay trapped inside.

The Twist

Bombs and combos

A limited stock of bombs lets you reshape the board. Chain captures to push combos, beat your record and climb the scoreboard.

Backend

Java, Spring and AppEngine

A Spring Framework backend on Google AppEngine handled persistence, Facebook Connect and the Uralys profile, shared with Lands of Uralys.

Social

Facebook application

Skooairs was deployed as a Facebook application with Graph API integration — friends, avatars and leaderboards plugged into the social graph.
