Ludum Dare 36 — my daughter's drawings, my first game jam
My very first Ludum Dare, August 2016. The theme was "Ancient Technology" and I took the weekend to ship a mobile game built around my daughter's drawings.
Cerise Music Ride is a runner where the main character, the bird and the sky were all drawn on paper by my 4-year-old daughter, then scanned and brought to life with Solar2D.
The whole adventure — 48 hours, one laptop, one Solar2D project and a lot of crayons.
A short capture of the final gameplay submitted to Ludum Dare 36.
A runner built around Cerise and her bird, riding across a hand-drawn sky. Tap to make her jump, dodge and sync her move with the music running in the background.
The Ludum Dare 36 theme was "Ancient Technology". My take: the oldest tech of all — drawings on paper, scanned in, then animated one frame at a time.

Cerise, the sidekick bird, the moon and the sky decorations — all drawn with crayons by my daughter, then scanned and imported as-is into Solar2D.

The sketches that shaped the game — the main character Cerise and her pet bird, drawn on a sheet of paper at the kitchen table.

Variations and poses — scanning many drawings gave me a small library to animate the bird and Cerise in the runner.

The last drawing session before bringing everything into Solar2D and starting the coding marathon.

August 27th — the first playable version running in the Corona simulator. Cerise can move and the bird follows. The runner loop is already there.

August 28th, 1AM — adding obstacles, difficulty ramp and music sync. The game takes shape.

August 29th — final polish pass on the animations, sound effects and moon in the background before submitting to the compo.

Working at the kitchen table with my daughter during the jam — her drawing, me coding, both of us watching the result run on the simulator between crayon strokes.

Paper sketches, scanner, laptop, Solar2D — the entire production pipeline of Cerise Music Ride in one photo.

A final snapshot of the setup — crayons, scanned drawings and a running prototype on the side.
Solar2D (Lua), scanned crayon drawings and a lot of coffee.
My first Ludum Dare entry — made in 48 hours with my daughter's drawings.

Cherry is the backbone to my games released from 2017. This is a toolset to help being quicker developing with Solar2D
